Yeh raha dil (review) Episode 1 – 7

Writer: Mustafa Afridi

Director: Siraj ul Haq

Actors: Ahmed Ali, Yumna Zaidi and Anum Ahmed

It’s been a year since I have started dreading Monday nights. Mann Mayal and Sanam have both been really horrendous. With stellar star cast and well known writer/director combo, both these serials turned out to be huge disappointments. So when I found out about Yeh Raha Dil I decided to give it a chance because it did not boast of any big stars. All it had going in its way was the name of the writer : Mustafa Afridi. Unfortunately his only work that I had seen so far was Sang E marmar and from the promos, this serial looked poles apart. So with zero expectations, I started watching the serial and since then have been pleasantly surprised.

Yeh raha dil is adapted from a well known Korean serial but its been presented in such a way that it looks like a complete pakistani project. The look of all the characters, their relationships with each other and their dialogues are all very Desi to say the least.

*Spoiler Alert *

Now, let’s come to the story. It’s about a young, bubbly, happy go lucky Hayat (Yumna Zaidi) who aspires to be a writer. She lives alone in her mansion as her father abandoned them after her parents divorced when she was young and her mother died a few years ago. So she does have property but in terms of cash, she is completely broke. She depends a lot on her best friend, salman, who happens to be in financial trouble himself. Salman and his wife ‘gift’ Hayat a trip to Nepal on her birthday. On the otherhand, there is Zaki (ahmed Ali) who is head over heals in love with the very beautiful nida (anum ahmed). Zaki is the only son of his rich parents and although he is very spoilt, he is gentle and kind. Zaki’s father thinks Zaki and nida might not be a good match and rejects the Idea completely. Zaki being used to having his own way decides to just pack his bags and leave for Nepal.

As of now, Zaki and Hayat have become good friends. Nida is jealous of Hayat. And in amidst all this, salman has conned hayat and has sold her house to Zaki’s dad before absconding with his wife.

Yeh raha dil has surprised me pleasantly in more ways than one. All the actors are complete naturals and they fit their roles like hand in glove. The dialogues are a treat and comedy is just right, never on the top or cheap. The story is like a breath of fresh air… No saas bahu emotional dramey bazi and older people are also shown to love their spouses in a way which is not only relatable but also very cute.

So far the drama has been really good. It does not boast of any big names like may Ali or hamza Ali Abbas but it has far more substance than a lot of serials that we seen in recent times. Plus, it’s not preachy and not a form of protest against any social issue. Just a light romantic comedy, done the right way.
